Welcome to iddstar

The institute of Digestive Diseases was set up as a specialized entity with a focus of digestive health and digestive diseases. Digestive disease include, diarrhea, intestinal obstruction, peptic ulcers, irritable and inflammatory bowel diseases, eating disorders, nutritional deficiencies, cancer to mention but a few.
Digestive diseases continue to be global burden with diarrheal diseases being number 7 in global burden of disease by incidence and mortality. In Africa the problem is even bigger with digestive disease ranking as high as number two. On the cancer front, digestive cancers contribute 5 out of the top 10 cancers in mortality and incidence. In Uganda, digestive cancers combined constitute nearly half of the top 10 cancer burden.
Such diseases of high burden and public health concern need dedicated and specialized efforts to combat them at multiple fronts including prevention and curative and palliative treatments. In Uganda, several organizations and institutions have been developed with specialization in management of specific disease conditions of public health concern. Some of these have focused on infectious, lung, heart diseases, cancer to mention but a few. On the other hand, no organization has paid specific focus to digestive diseases. This is the premise for the development of the Institute of Digestive Diseases.
The institute of Digestive disease employ what we call “the STAR approach”. The STAR Approach is an acronym for Service, Training, Advocacy, Research. This STAR approach is our guiding principle in that all our activities must include an element of providing a Service to the Community, Training of the individuals involved e.g. health care workers, Advocacy for betterment and Research for quality improvement and guidance of future activities.
We, at the Institute of Digestive Disease are honoured and delighted to do what we do in serving the communities we work with for the betterment of Humanity.
